I can’t believe I’ve been in California for over two weeks now! My days have been filled mostly with my time at Wiley Valentine (the design studio where I’m working). I’ve been working on the revamp of their Etsy shop. You should check it out and buy something! There is so much to do here in Orange County so I’ve tried to get some exploring in on the weekends. One place my coworkers were adamant about me going to was Trader Joe’s. I had never heard of the store before they started raving about it. However, I learned yesterday that one opened up in Omaha (where I grew up) about a year ago. My four years in Peoria put me behind on all the latest Omaha news! Yesterday I decided to check out this place everyone seems to love. My thought was, a grocery store?? How great could one be?? Here’s a play by play/picture by picture recount of my adventure. Yes, I was a complete nerd taking pics with my phone in the grocery store. Continue reading
No Services for the Next 106 Miles
Three days ago I was in Omaha, Nebraska and now I’m in Laguna Hills, California! Wow! It feels so weird to say that. The trip was just shy of 1600 miles and definitely an adventure. Before I set off on my cross country road trip, my family and I spent this past weekend running around trying to get last minute things done. But most importantly I wanted to spend time with two of the most gorgeous little girls, my nieces. Bethany will be turning three in about a week and Lily is two and a half months old. My New Adventure at Wiley Valentine
Hello Everyone!
I know some of you haven’t heard from me in a long time and probably have no idea where I’m at right now. No worries, this post will fill you in on the latest opportunity to come my way. It all started on Twitter about a month ago. Yes, it was a tweet that led me to Wiley Valentine in Irvine, California. I had been following them for awhile and was excited to hear that they were offering their first design internship. Within 24hrs of that first tweet I had responded with a cover letter and a link to my portfolio. Despite them wanting a local resident, I decided to adamantly pursue this opportunity and was able to get a Skype interview with them. As some of you know my portfolio case is 45 inches long so it made for an interesting time showing them over video. I quickly made a thank you card after the interview, which they received two days later. By the next day, I was offered the position. I will never again doubt the possibilities of Twitter. Job hunting in this lovely economy
The last couple months I have spent scouring the Internet trying to find a job (no job yet), but I have come across some really amazing places that I would love to work with. My design interests include: traditional print design, web design, letterpress, book making and anything else crafty. I love designing things on the computer, but I would love a job where I could still use my hands. Continue reading
My First Blog
Hello everyone! I am finally ready to launch a blog. I’ve never worked with WordPress before so it was a challenge designing and getting everything to work together. Please allow for some growing pains as I add more posts and try to get this pesky site to validate. I’ve worked down from 30 errors to 21 so we’ll see how many I figure out before I break the whole site. If you are interested in building a WordPress theme from scratch, check out this tutorial. It’s a little overwhelming at first, but worth achieving a unique design.
My plan for this blog is to share design inspiration and any projects I’m working on. Also a few updates on my life, which is always interesting. I’m a recent graduate trying to conquer the unfavorable job market right now so I’m sure I’ll have lots to share. If you have any comments or suggestions about the design, I would love to hear them! Thanks for reading!
